Brad, over at Liliputing, has put up an extensive review of the Acer Aspire 1410 Thin & Light. We call it a ‘Thin & Light’ because instead of the netbook standard Atom processor, this breed of device is larger and more powerful than a normal netbook, but not quite as large, powerful or heavy as a traditional laptop.

Most thin and lights are powered by Intel’s CULV processor lineup, and the one reviewed uses a dual core 1.2GHz Intel Celeron SU2300 processor with integrated Intel GMA4500MHD graphics. It has 2GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, 802.11b/g/n WiFi and a 6 cell, 4400mAh battery. Here in the UK, we get a slightly higher specc’ed model with a larger 250gb hard drive and a dual core 1.3ghz Celeron ULV 743 processor for £396.34 shipping now, or £379.99 if you wait until it’s in stock from Amazon UK.

Read on for the full review.

Results were a mixed bag. Plus points were given to the price point of the machine – the lower powered Celeron ULV processor helps with that. However, performance, while better than Intel’s Atom CPU, wasn’t quite as good as expected. There were still some hiccups with video performance, and battery life was shorter than expected.

Overall though, if you’re after a bigger screened, slightly more powerful alternative to the plethora of 10″ netbooks like the Asus 1005HA and the Samsung N140, the Acer Aspire 1410 makes a nice alternative.

Although still not officially announced, the user manual for Lenovo’s new IdeaPad U150 has already shown up online. The IdeaPad U150 is Lenovo’s new 11.6 inch thin and light laptop powered by an Intel CULV processor as opposed to the Intel Atom that powers most netbooks. It will weigh just under 3 pounds with a 3 cell battery or about 3.3 pounds with a 6 cell battery and measures 11.5″ x 7.6″ x 1″ with a 3 cell battery.

We already know that the U150 will be powered by a dual core Intel SU4100 CULV processor and it will have integrated GMA X4500 graphics. Port and connection-wise, it will have a 4-in-1 card reader, 2 USB ports plus an eSATA/USB combo port, Ethernet, HDMI, VGA, D-sub, headphone and mic jacks. Other than that, we gather from the user manual that the following will be able to be built to order with the following options:

Only a day after Asus launched the 1008HA , it seems as if the company has a whole mess of thin-and-light netbooks planned. Both the 1005HA-M and 1005HA-H have been revealed, with the former taking a lower-end angle with a 1.6GHz Atom N270, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, no Bluetooth, WiFi, a 6-cell battery (supposedly good for 8 hours of use), a 1.3 megapixel webcam and a €299 euro price tag.

The 1005HA-H includes most of the same internal gear as the Seashell (Eee PC 1008hA) , though it does step things up with two extra USB 2.0 ports, a 6-cell battery (versus a 5-cell in the Seashell) and 0.3kg of extra heft for €349 . Both machines should launch in France by July, and we’d say the real kicker is that both purportedly boast removable batteries, very much unlike the Seashell.

The full specs list is after the break.
