Lenovo is reportedly getting ready to launch a new business ultraportable that will dual-boot Windows and Android. The Verge caught wind caught the story, naming the upcoming laptop as the ThinkPad X1 Hybrid. On the outside, the ThinkPad X1 ultraportable isn’t any different than the current model, but the new hybrid model will also have an “instant media mode” which appears to be based on Google Android.

You’ll be able to fully boot the machine into a Windows desktop to run productivity apps, but youcan also tap a button and start working right away if you opt for the instant media mode, likely by using the Android web browser, media players, and other light-weight apps.

The Verge reports that the ThinkPad X1 Hybrid will get up to 10 hours of battery life when running Android, which is about twice teh 5 hours of run time under Windows. If you can get by with Android apps instead of Windows apps, that provides a pretty good incentive for running in media mode.

There’s no word yet on how much the new X1 Hybrid will cost, but the current Lenovo ThinkPad X1 laptop runs about $1200 and up and features a 13.3 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, Intel Core i-series processor, 4GB of RAM, and a choice of a solid state disk or a hard drive.

Lenovo is also expected to offer a dual core version with an Atom N570 chip. The netbook has 1GB of DDR3 memory, a 250GB hard drive and Windows 7 Starter Edition.
Last week at Computex, Lenovo showed off a brand new ThinkPad ultraportable laptop and Pocket Lint snapped some photos and got a few details.

The new ThinkPad Edge E125 a bit like teh ThinkPad X120e, but this new model features an AMD Fusion processor, although it’s not yet clear if that means it will be powered by an AMD E-350 chip or a new AMD E-450 processor.

The ThinkPad Edge E125 features an 11.6 inch display, an island-style keyboard, and Lenovo’s TrackPoint system which offers both a standard touchpad below the keyboard and a pointing stick in the middle of the keyboard. For connections, there are three USB ports, HDMI and D-sub ports, Ethernet, and a headset jack as well as WiFi and Bluetooth.

There’s no word on the price or launch date for this model.

Intel answer to the one laptop per child project (OLPC XO Laptop) is the Classmate PC. It’s student-oriented netbook that’s semi-rugged to stand up to the wear and tear of a primary school environment and a student backpack. Around 3 million computers based on the Classmate PC design have been deployed in schools around the globe and nowLenovo is entering the game in a partnership with Intel to launch a kid-friendly netbook called the Classmate+ PC.

The Classmate+ PC has a 10.1 inch display, an Intel Atom N455 processor, a 1.3MP camera, flash card reader, and WiFi. It runs Windows 7 and has a durable plastic case with a handle built into the body of the laptop for easy carrying.

Lenovo will be selling the Classmate+ PC to educational institutions and governments rather than end users. The company has already signed a deal to ship 158,000 units to students in Argentina this spring.

Brad, at Liliputing, got a chance to check out the new IdeaPad S100 today. This new netbook is Lenovo’s fourth generation netbook, and doesn’t look to be much different than the model’s that Lenovo previously put out. The main differences are a new keyboard design and the fact that the new model will be available with a choice of single or dual core Intel Atom processors.

Lenovo states that the IdeaPad S100 will support chips up to an Intel Atom N570 processor. Intel hasn’t officially announced the N570 processor yet, but it’s probably a faster version of the Dual Core N550 chip – just like the the Atom N475 is just a slightly faster version of the Atom N455.
