Inventec producing Chrome Netbook for Google

Chrome OS notebooks won’t hit retail until next year, and when they do, they will likely be produced by a major manufacturer like Asus or Acer. Until then, however, there are already about 60,000 laptops designed to run Chrome OS in the world today. That’s because Google provided a select group free Chrome OS laptops to about 60,000 testers.

Google CR-48 Android Netbook unboxing and first look

Looks like Google is moving quickly now. Google only announced the CR-48 Chrome OS netbooks earlier this week, and now they’re already arriving in the hands of the lucky chosen few who will be part of the beta test.

One user, Ben Kessler tweeted that he received one of the netbooks today, and potsed the first unboxing photos on Flickr. He also reports that the build quality seems to be good, and the case has a rubberized plastic feel, but the battery doesn’t sit flush with the bottom of the laptop.

First look at Google’s ‘CR-48′ Chrome netbook

As expected, Google unveiled the first netbook to run Google Chrome OS. One surprise, it’s not really meant for the general public and that would explain the rather plain design and name. The new device is called simply the Cr-48. It’s a 12 inch notebook that will be available as part of a pilot program for developers and other testers.
