Google has announced a new partnership that can get you a new Chromebook without paying for it. They’ve partnered with US airline, Virgin America to allow customers to borrow laptops running Chrome OS for free on flights originating in San Francisco, Chicago O’Hare airport, Dallas/Fort Worth, or Boston. Passengers simply check out a Chromebook will be able to surf the web in the air using free WiFi.

Acer’s first Chrome OS netbook will hit the States this month for $349.99 with a 3G capable model coming later this summer.   You might have noticed that the Acer AC700 Chromebook was initially scheduled to launch on June 15th, but after missing that target date, Acer sent out a press release announced the imminent launch [...]

The first Google Chromebooks are scheduled to ship next week, and Google has officially launched a support site for the Chrome operating system. That’s important, because as with most Google producsts, support is in the self-service style. The website is your one stop shop for all the support Google will provide.

iFixit got their hands on the new Series 5 Chromebook today and of course, they’ve already gotten down to business and posted a detailed set of teardown photos. The fact that the screws on the bottom of the Chromebook are hidden by rubber feet barely phased them, after which , you can remove the battery by taking out a few more screws. So, of course, that means no removable battery (unless you want to carry a screwdriver around with you).

Earlier today Google revealed it’s new Chromebook platform, and they’ve also partnered with Acer and Samsung to create the hardware to run it.
