Build quality, like the predecessing 5101 model, was excellent. Battery life was a staggering 10:08 hours with the 6-cell battery (only a $25 USD upgrade).

HP have released the successor to their current business netbook, the HP Mini 5101. Then new one, predictably is called the 5102 and it sports some new features like an optional capacitive touchscreen and carry handle.

Design-wise, it looks quite similiar to the old model 5101 but now on the inside, it packs a Pinetrail Atom N450 processor. There are also a ton of options to configure, including a number of pricey SSDs and a Broadcom Crystal HD decoder.

Check out the full specs of the HP Mini 5102 after the break.

HP Mini 5102 Specs:

10.1” 1024 x 600 or 1366 x 768 matte display

Atom N450 / N470 processor

4-cell (4.5 hour) battery or 6-cell (66Whr, 10 hour battery)

1 – 2GB RAM

160 / 250 5400RPM or 320GB 7200RPM HDDs

80 / 128GB SSD

802.11b/g/n Wi-FI, Bluetooth

3G, GPS, multi-touch capacitive touchscreen & carry handle

Broadcom HD Decoder Card

Weight: 2.64 pounds (4-cell)

Windows 7 Starter / Home Premium / Windows XP Home or Pro / SUSE Linux

Some new info has popped up about HP’s new Mini 210 netbook. In this chart, form an HP affiliate catalog we discover a release date of Jan. 7th, which corresponds with the first day of CES, and some pricing details. Perhaps more importantly for the UK market, we see mention of a Compaq model called the CQ10. This may well be what the netbook is called when it hits UK shores. Just like the HP Mini 311 is braned as the Compaq Mini 311c here.

Pricing in the states for the standard HP Mini 210 is$279.99 while the HD edition (high resolution display) costs $329.99 and the Compaq is the cheapest of the lot at $259.99. We don’t have any info on UK pricing or availability at this time.

Brad, over at Liliputing, gives us this video unboxing of the HP Mini 311 – rebranded as the Compaq Mini 311C here in the UK. This 11.6 inch netbook’s biggest claim to fame is it’s hi-res 1366 x 768 pixel screen, and the Nvidia Ion graphics chip to back it up. It also helps that it’s the most affordable netbook to come with Nvidia Ion, priced at just £319.49 with free shipping at Amazon UK. Along with the Ion graphics, this model comes with the standard netbook mod cons including an Intel Atom N270 processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB SATA Hard Disk Drive, Wireless, Bluetooth, HDMI, and a 6 Cell Battery good for up to 6 hours on a single charge.

So, first impressions. It’s noted that the keyboard is the same size as the version on the 10″ version, leaving some unused space on each side of the chassis. Despite that, it’s not overly cramped. The touchpad features two distinct buttons and is a good size, but could benefit from being a bit larger. We’ll have to wait a bit for performance figures, but it should handle HD (1080p and 720p) without much problem. It’s also possible to overclock the processor to 2ghz+ as you can read in our earlier post.

Check out the unboxing video after the break.
