Archos better know for making personal media players, and more recently Android tablet computers, might have a new netbook up their sleeve.  The folks at Pocket Now have found evidence suggesting that Archos might bring out a new netbook called the ‘Gbook’.  Archos has filed for trademark protection for the term “Gbook” in Europe.

The name implies both a netbook stlye machine factor and some sort of Google based operating system, although it’s not clear if that will be Android or Google’s upcoming Chrome OS operating system.

Archos is better known for making portable media players, and more recently a barrage of Android powered tablets. Now, the company is also trying its ahalso dipped its toe in the netbook space a while back with the Archos 10 mini-laptop.

The Archos 10 may not have been a runaway success, but that apparently hasn’t stopped the company form launching a second laptop with a 10 inch screen. The Archos Arnova, though, is a different kind of machine than the Archos 10.

While the first Archos netbook has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM, and the ability to run Windows XP, Linux, or  other desktop operating systems, the Archos Arnova is a budget device with a 533MHz ARM-based processor, 128MB of RAM, 2GB of storage, and the Windows CE 60 operating system.

Put simply, it’s meant for surfing the web, running a few apps, and not much else. On the other hand, it’s priced pretty decently. It’s going for just £126.75 at Amazon UK. That’s just over $200 US.

The Archos Arnova has a 10.2 inch TFT display, 802.11b/g WiFi, a 2100mAh battery, 3 USB ports, an Ethernet jack, and an SD card slot. It weighs about 2.4 pounds.

There’s no word on whether this mini-laptop will make it to the US or other countries anytime soon.

Better known for protable music players, and later video players and tablet,s Archos is trying to step up to larger devices with this 13.3″ screen’d, Intel Atom powered netbook.  Their new Archos 13 features a 13.3 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display and an Intel Atom processor. Interestingly, it uses the somewhat power hungry, dual core Intel Atom D510 processor actually intended for use in nettops and desktops.

There’s also 1GB of DDR2 of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, 802.1b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, and a 6 cell battery and a VGA port. The laptop weighs about 3.5 pounds. The Archos 13 runs Windows 7 Starter Edition.

The Archos is available in France for €399.98 or about $485 US.

Archos 10s Netbook

The new Archos 10s “MiniPC,” has mostly identical specs to the Archos 10 but packs them in a slimmer and lighter package. Still no word on price for the Archos10s, unfortunately, but it’ll apparently be available later this month in both three-cell and six-cell versions.

The Archos 10s features a 10.2’’ screen, an Intel® ATOM™ 1.6 Ghz with 1 GB of RAM, and 80GB¹ hard disk storage. It runs Microsoft® Windows XP Home/Family edition
