The Acer Aspire One 522 10 inch netbook and Aspire One 722 11.6 inch were both originally equiped with a 1 GHz AMD C-50 processors and Radeon HD 6250 graphics. Today,  Notebook Italia found out that  each will get the new AMD C-60 chip with more powerful Radeon HD 6290 graphics.

While you still won’t get desktop-class performance out of the new chips, they should offer more power without actually using more energy. The C-60 chip has a TDP of 9W, just like the older C-50 processor.

Acer’s Aspire One 522 netbook features a 10. 1inch, 1280 x 720 pixel display and 1GB or more of RAM.

The Aspire One 722 has an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, up to 4GB of RAM and up to 500GB of hard drive space.

Both laptops have 802.11b/g/n WiFi, 6 cell batteries, and flash card readers.

No word yet on UK availability, but in Europe they’re selling for 250 Euros and 400 Euros, respectively.

Acer’s first Chrome OS netbook will hit the States this month for $349.99 with a 3G capable model coming later this summer.   You might have noticed that the Acer AC700 Chromebook was initially scheduled to launch on June 15th, but after missing that target date, Acer sent out a press release announced the imminent launch of the device today.

The Acer AC700 features an 11.6 inch display, a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N570 dual core processor, 2GB of DDR3 RAM and a 16GB solid state disk. The Chromebook has 2 USB ports, a4-in-1 card reader, and 802.11b/g/n WiFi. It has a 6 cell abttery and weighs 2.95 pounds.

This Acer is the cheaper alternative to the Samsung Series 5 Chromebook which starts at $429.99 (again, in the US)  The biggest difference is that Samsung’s model has a 12.1 inch display and claimed battery life is 8 hours vs. the Acer 6 hours of run time.

Acer has introduced some new multimedia laptops, which we normally woulnd’t cover, but they come  with an intersting feature I haven’t seen before:   They have a removable touchpad that one can use as a touchscreen remote control.

The Acer Aspire Ethos 8951G and 5951G are big, expensive laptop, but I think the removable touchpad/remote concept is so cool that it might be useful in Acer’s netbooks as well.

There’s a orientation sensor built into the touchpad, allowing you to hold it in landscape or portrait orientation. The remote has on-screen buttons for controlling media playback including what appear to be play and pause buttons and icons you can tap to bring up on-screen menus and other features.

Acer’s first Chromebook will begin selling in the US on June 15th, but Amazon has already posted a product page for the Acer Cromia AC761.

The laptop features an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N570 dual core processor, GMA 3150 graphics, 2GB of DDR3 memory, and 16GB of storage. It has 2 USB ports, an HDMI output, a 1.3MP camera and 802.11b/g/n WiFi. There’s also a second listing for a model with 3G.

Acer’s Chromebook is  expected to sell for $349 (USD) and up, but there are no prices are listed on the Amazon page at the moment.

The Acer Aspire One 722 is a notebook with an 11.6 inch display, an AMD C-50 processor, and Radeon HD 6250 graphics.  It should come in at one of the cheapest 11.6 inch notebooks you can find with support for 1080p HD video playback thanks to the Radeon graphics.  Amazon is now taking pre-orders, where it’s being sold for  $329.99 and available in blackor blue.

The laptop has a 1366 x 768 pixel display, 2GB of DDR3 memory, a 250GB hard drive, and runs Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Connection-wise, there’s 802.11b/g/n WiFi, 3 USB ports, a 0.3MP camera, and HDMI output. It measures 11.2″ x 7.9″ x 1″ and weighs 3.2 pounds.

We’ve heard a lot about the Acer Aspire One “Happy’, and we’ve already seen the take-apart video, but now the colourful Acer Aspire One Happy has been spotted in Italy.  Acer recently updated the netbook with a new ripple pattern design on the lid and new  yellow, orange, blue, and pink colors.  They also updated the netbook to the latest specs including a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N570 dual core processor, 1GB of DDR3 memory and up to 320GB of hard drive space.

Notebook Italia reports that the netbook will sell in Italy soon for around 299 Euros.

The computer runs Windows 7 Starter, weighs 2.86 pounds, and features a 48Whr, 802.11b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth. Some models may also be available with a dual-boot Windows and Google Android configuration.

Macles has dug up a Chrome OS bug report that sheds some more light on Acer’s upcoming Chrome OS netbook – code named ZGB.  The machine appears to have a 1366 x 768 pixel display, which is better than the 1024×600 resolution we see on many current netbooks.

Macles also reads between the lines a bit to deduce that the notebook will likely have an Intel-based processor and HDMI output.   However, there’s still no information on which Intel chip it will use, how much it will cost, or even how big the laptop will be.

Macles reports that Acer will be releasing a new version of the Acer Aspire One called the Acer Aspire One Happy.  There are two main updates, which include new colors and a new processor.  The updated Aspire One Happy will be available in “Blueberry Shake, Banana Cream, Papaya Milk, and Strawberry Yogurt,” also known as blue, yellow, peach and pink.  Like the AO257, the new Acer Aspire One Happy will be available with a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N570 dual core processor. It will have a 10 inch display, 8 hour battery, Bluetooth and WiFi. The netbook is expected to weigh about 2.2 pounds.

Acer has already updated the 10″ Acer Aspire One 521 with the new AMD C-50 processor, and at the same time, the new model became known as the Acer Aspire One 522 .  Now, the company also plans to launch an Aspire One 722 and as you can probably guess, the new AMD C-50 processor is present in the 11.6″ Aspire One 722 as well.

Macles states that the Acer Aspire One 722 will have an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display and a 1 GHz AMD C-50 dual core processor with Radeon HD 6250 graphics. To compensate for the higher power draw of the larger screen, there’s also a higher capacity battery than the Aspire One 522, but in most respects it’s just a larger version of the same laptop.

There’s no word on when the Aspire One 722 will ship or how much the laptop will cost – the Acer Aspire One 522 is currently up for pre-order for £249.99 and will be shipping on the 28th of this month.

Lid tweaked with water drop design

The Acer Iconia Touchbook is an interesting mix between a tablet and a notebook.  It has two 14 inch touchscreen displays, with another screen where you’d normally find a keyboard last year.  Acer has announced the Touchbook will go on sale in the US and Canada for about $1200 starting in April.

The Acer Iconia Touchbook features an Intel core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 640GB hard drive. It supports VGA and HDMI output, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and has a 1.3MP camera. The computer comes with touch specific software including a virtual keyboard, gesture editor, and window manager. The Windows 7 computer also includes a touch-friendly web browser and touchscreen photo, music, and video apps.
