Next-gen NVIDIA ION Netbooks Coming Soon

Blogeee reports that two new netbooks sporting Nvidia’s next-generation NVIDIA ION graphics might be shipping soon in France. French retailer ‘Fnac’ currently has listings for the Asus Eee PC 1201PN 12.1 inch notebook and the Acer Aspire One 532g netbook. The Acer netbook is expected to start shipping on May 14th, while Fnac says the Asus laptop should be available in France by May 1st.
The Asus Eee PC 1201PN features a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor and NVIDIA’s latest ION graphics chip for HD video and 3D graphics.
The notebook has a 12.1 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel HD display, 2GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, and Bluetooth 2.1 as well as an HDMI output and a 6 cell, 5600mAh battery. The laptop runs Windows 7 Home Premium and will sell for 499 Euros, or about $676 — but I suspect the price will be much lower when the Eee PC 1201PN is released in the US.
The Acer Aspire One 532g has a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor and a less capable version of NVIDIA’s new ION graphics platform. While it will still support HD video playback and 3D graphics, it has half the shaders of the ION chip used in the Eee PC 1201PN. This will help reduce costs and energy consumption while still letting you watch HD video on a low power netbook.
