Intel to offer Dual Core Atom Chips for Netbooks
Intel already offers some dual core Atom processors (like the Atom330) but so far they have been made available only to the Nettop market. A few companies, like Asus, have flaunted Inte’s strict ‘guidelines’ and crammed the Atom 330 desktop processor into notebooks but Intel hasn’t officially launched a dual core chip specifically designed for netbooks until now.
But Intel CEO Paul Otellini says the company is going to launch a new dual core Atom processor for netbooks in the second quarter of 2010. The news doesn’t come as much of a surprise – there were rumours already last month of a new Intel Atom N500 dual core netbook chip, but it’s good to see it officially from Intel now.
