[Review] Asus Eee PC 1001P – Cheap, Pinetrail Powered and 8 Hour Battery
Asus has slipped the launch of the Eee PC 1001P under the covers. Sure, it’s not as glitzy and glamorous as their top shelf offerings like Eee PC 1008P and 1005PE. Yet it still features the new Intel Atom Pine Trail processor a good battery and Windows 7, so how does it stack up?
The model tested came with WIFI – 802.11b/g WiFi, but no 802.11n. It also lacks Bluetooth and has a lower capacity battery than the Eee PC 1005PE, but it does have the important hardware covered, like a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 CPU, 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive, and 10.1 inch 1024 x 600 pixel display. It runs Windows 7 Starter and Asus says it can run for up to 11 hours on a charge and to make up for some of the shortcomings, it sells for just $299 in the US (about £200) making it one of the cheapest netbooks on the market today.
You can read the full review here at Laptop Magazine. They not that it doesn’t quite live up to the promised 11 hour battery life, but it still manages a quite respectable 8 hour and 23 minutes. The Asus Eee PC 1001P is now available at Amazon UK for £229.00 with free shipping.
