VIA announces new Nano 3000 processors with speeds up to 2ghz,
Watch out Intel Atom, VIA is updating their line of processors with a new range of VIA Nano 3000 chips. They all feature feature a 64-bit architecture and run in speeds varying from 1ghz to 2ghz, handily beating out Intel’s announced Atom N470 which will reportedly run at 1.86ghz. VIA claims they’re all capable of handling 1080p HD video playback and that they outperform earlier VIA Nano processors by more than 20% in the PCMark 05 and 3Dmark 2006 benchmarks while using up to 20% less power. In comparison to the Intel Atom N270, VIA claims the Nano 3000 will outperform the 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU by about 40% to 50%.
The new VIA Nano 3000 chips are compatible with earlier VIA sockets and motherboards which means manufacturers will be able to slot in the new processor into motheboards designed for VIA C7, C7-M, Eden, and earlier Nano processors.
