Brad, over at Liliputing, has put up an extensive review of the Acer Aspire 1410 Thin & Light.  We call it a ‘Thin & Light’ because instead of the netbook standard Atom processor, this breed of device is larger and more powerful than a normal netbook, but not quite as large, powerful or heavy as a traditional laptop.

Most thin and lights are powered by Intel’s CULV processor lineup, and the one reviewed uses a dual core 1.2GHz Intel Celeron SU2300 processor with integrated Intel GMA4500MHD graphics. It has 2GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, 802.11b/g/n WiFi and a 6 cell, 4400mAh battery.  Here  in the UK, we get a slightly higher specc’ed model with a larger 250gb hard drive and a dual core 1.3ghz Celeron ULV 743 processor for £396.34 shipping now, or £379.99 if you wait until it’s in stock from Amazon UK.

Read on for the full review.

Results were a mixed bag. Plus points were given to the price point of the machine – the lower powered Celeron ULV processor helps with that. However, performance, while better than Intel’s Atom CPU, wasn’t quite as good as expected. There were still some hiccups with video performance, and battery life was shorter than expected.

Overall though, if you’re after a bigger screened, slightly more powerful alternative to the plethora of 10″ netbooks like the Asus 1005HA and the Samsung N140, the Acer Aspire 1410 makes a nice alternative.
