Litl Webbook demo video released – I’m not impressed.
A few days ago we brough you a post about a new netbook-like device from a relatively unheard of startup called ‘Litl’. Their new product, called the ‘Webbook’ looked interesting – well at the very least, different. We didn’t have much info then, and in regards to tehcnical specs, we still don’t. The company has put out a lengthy demo video, which you can see for yourself after the break.
I’ll start with the good. It has a great 12″ screen with 178 degree viewing cone. Using that screen, the Webbook is able to go into ‘Easel’ mode by doing a back flip, so that it rests in a tripod fashion for displaying media like photos, or perhaps a recipe in the kitchen. That’s pretty clever.
The Webbook, however, seems to be targetted at people who don’t want or like computers – and I do. It uses a proprietary operating system that seems to dumb everything down into very limited operating scenarios. You save web pages and locations on ‘cards’ located on the desktop. So, it seems you can browse the web, view photos and videos, and….well, that’s about it. Really, after watching the video, I’m not sold on this thing at all even as something to give to my Grandma.
