12.1″ Via NetNote taken apart and reviewed
VIA has been out a reference design for a 12.1″ netbook using their VIA Nano process called the NetNote. The reference design includes a VIA Nano processor and VX855 chipset capable of 1080P HD. The folks at PCHOME.net have gotten ahold of this machine and taken a rather extensive look at it, including a full teardown revealing all its components. So far we’ve only see Chinese netbooks using this reference design, but these new VIA designs look promising, so I’ll think we’ll be seeing more of them here.
Read on for the review and more pictures.
Plus pooints were given to the big screen, keyboard and touchpad. Letting the design down were the plastics, which felt rather cheap and flimsy.
Performance wise the VIA NetNote faired very well, beating out netbooks with integrated graphics. They also mention a battery life of 5 hours. Two more plus points were an MP3 player that works when the machine is in standby, an integrated tv tuner, and a remote control.
This might be a better alternative to your average Atom netbook but in the large form factor (11” – 13”) it doesn’t seem as compelling as the Intel CULV processor.
