Broadcom to develop ARM based multicore processors

Broadcom has licensed ARM's Cortex A9 multicore
Broadcom is well known for making the chips that go into your communications cards – starting with the humble modem, and now more frequently in your wireless cards. Recently, however, they have shown an interest to jump on the netbook trend with their Broadcom Crystal HD Media Accelerator a device designed to bring HD quality video to portable devices with a PCI-E slot.
Going one further now, Telecoms reports that Broadcom has licensed ARM’s Cortex A9 multicore processor technology, as well as technology for media acceleration on low power ARM-based chips. ARM based chips on known for their very low power consumption, making them ideal for portable devices such as smartphones and MIDs (mobile internet devices).
ARM chips are not x86 based, so they won’t run Windows 7, but they’ll certainly run anything Linux based, including the upcoming Google Chrome OS.
