Sony announces a new netbook – the Sony Vaio W and it’s coming in August.

*Edit – Launch dates have been announced – the White model is coming on August 8th, with the Pink one on the 22nd. The W series is up at Sony Vaio UK, too.
A Japanese pres release today announced the Sony Vaio W “internet book”, which considering the 10.1″ screen and 1.6ghz processor. Further to the usual specs, it runs Windows XP on 1GB of RAM. The screen is a bit nicer than usual netbook spec at 1366 x 768 too. It’s certianly an interesting move for the company that brought us the cool, but expensive VAIO P and comments suggesting that netbooks were a ‘race to the bottom’. Reports are that it will cost ¥60,000 or just north of 400 pounds.

Full Specs:
Atom N280 processor, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, Intel 945GSE Express Chipset, Windows XP Home.
Ports: 2x USB, 802.11g Wi-Fi (Draft n optional), Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, VGA out, 0.3 MP Webcam. Weighs 1.19kg and has 267.8 x 179.6 x 27.5 – 32.4mm dimensions.
Lithium-ion 3-cell battery, as it lasts around 3.5 hours. A larger capacity battery will be available in mid-September.
