Hewlett Packard (HP) to bring out new 10.1″ and 11.6″ netbooks?

Digitimes has learned “that Quanta Computer will begin production of a new 11.6-inch netbook in August and a new 10.1-inch model at the end of 2009 for Hewlett-Packard (HP), while Inventec will begin producing a revision of HP’s 10.1-inch netbook at the end of September, according to industry sources in Taiwan.”
What does that mean? Well, most big names like HP, Dell, Sony, Apple, etc don’t actually produce their products themselves. Instead, they use contracted manufacturers like Quanta, Compal and Foxconn. So this announcement essentially means that we will see new HP branded hardware, produced by Quanta in Taiwan late this year.
It’s not hugely significant, but it is good news to see big names in the industry producing and innovating on the netbook market. It’s also comes in the wake of Acer and Asus announcing that they will slow down their netbook plans for 2009, although that also may be changed by Intel’s announcement today regarding Pinetrail.
