Acer Aspire One Pro 531, business netbook, launches in the UK

Acer Aspire One Pro 531
The Aspire One Pro 531 which launched Tuesday this week is based on the Aspire One 531, but focused on the business netbook user. This, somewhat oddly, means larger hard drives (250gb vs. 160gb), built-in 3g and pro versions of Windows XP. The latter 2 make sense, but I would think a consumers would demand more storage than business users.
The Aspire One Pro 531 is 2.5cm-thick and weighs 1.03kg or 1.17kg — depending on your choice of 3 or 6 cell battery. Battery life is up to 7.5 hours on the 6 cell version. The netbook has an 89-percent-size keyboard and a multi-gesture touchpad. Roundng out the specs is 802.11b/g, Integrated 3G and bluetooth.
The Aspire One Pro 531 is available now at two prices: £349 plus VAT for the version with a three-cell battery and 1GB of RAM, and £399 plus VAT for the version with a six-cell battery and 2GB of RAM.

I think most netbook manufactures and forgotten their roots when it comes to designing a netbook. Toshiba’s NB200 and the Acer Pro 531 are great examples of something that has lost focus on the original idea. I have a 12″ Toshiba proper laptop – it’s a big screen too but is only 2cm wider than both of the above models and almost the same depth. The point, I thought, about netbooks is that they are small and easy to carry – the move into the 10″ screen ruins this concept. I want the above Acer 531 or Toshiba NB200 power but in a NB100 package or it’s no good. Where on earth do they do their market research!!
