Via brings 1080p Full HD with Surboard Netbook – Here’s the video.
On Tuesday, Via Technologies has announced its new Surfboard C855 mainboard reference design directed at the netbook market. The Surfboard is built around the company’s new VX855 chipset and promises 1080p Full HD video playback, 8-channel HD audio, hardware decoding for H.264, MPEG-2/4, VC-1 and WMV9, and support for Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS and 3G connectivity. The VX855 is claimed to play back 1080p video while consuming less than 40 percent of the CPU, supporting up to 1366 x 768 internal display resolution (1920 x 1440 external).
The Surfboard is designed for netbooks with 10-inch to 12-inch displays adn looks to be a low-cost netbook reference design that indirectly takes aim at the Nvidia Ion platform.
